Withings Aura – For perfectly controlled sleep

I already told you here about some solutions to monitor your sleep . Today we are going to see together a connected object entirely dedicated to your sleep and really complete. It was awarded at the CES Innovations Awards 2014 in the “Health & Fitness” category. The Withings brand wishes to lead the connected health revolution and therefore specializes in connected objects dedicated to health.

Withings Aura – Device

The Withings Aura consists of a bedside lamp, a sensor to be placed under the mattress and an application that collects all the data. Incidentally we could also discuss the relevance of putting the sensor under the mattress because it is precisely made to inhibit any movement. I don’t think I was the first to think about it so they had to plan but don’t have an overly perfected mattress just in case…

Withings Aura – How it works

Like many devices which propose to study your sleep, the aura identifies the phases of sleep. As a reminder: your sleep can be divided into a number of  cycles . A cycle is made up of  three phases :  slow sleep  where the body regenerates,  REM sleep  where we dream and finally  micro-awakenings .

The module located under the mattress is therefore responsible for recording data related to sleep and user movements . It is he who identifies the phases of sleep, heart rate and respiration.  It synchronizes automatically with the bedside lamp which collects environmental factors (brightness, temperature, noise level). With all these data the system generates light and sound programs adapted to the biological clock and intended to positively influence the quality of sleep.

More precisely, the variations and the brightness of multi-color LEDs have been thought to optimize the light wavelengths and their correlation with the secretion of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Relaxing sounds and lights at bedtime and stimuli during the waking phase.

Withings Aura – The app

All data can be transmitted via Wifi or bluetooth to the mobile application. We can then view all the data associated with our sleep and identify the events that disturb it or compare the sleep qualities of previous nights on our mobile. The application allows you to control all personalized programs and wake-up times.

The Aura seems to be a good, complete and precise solution to properly monitor your sleep and improve your daily life. It will be marketed around mid-2014 at a price of € 299.
